The grill is the anchor. Choose it well.
Everything in an outdoor kitchen is arranged around the grill. This guide covers the two decisions that matter most — size and mounting — plus what actually separates a grill that lasts from one that doesn't.
Size It to How You Host
Budget roughly 6 inches of cooking width per regular guest, then match to your real habits:
- Family of 4, occasional hosting: 30–32″ grill.
- Regular weekend host (8–12): 36″ — the sweet spot for most.
- Big crowds (12+) or serious cook: 36–42″, or a grill plus a side/power burner.
Going bigger than you host wastes fuel and counter space. Going smaller means working in batches.
