The Grill Guide

How to size, mount, and choose a grill that lasts.

THE LUXE GUIDE

The grill is the anchor. Choose it well.

Everything in an outdoor kitchen is arranged around the grill. This guide covers the two decisions that matter most — size and mounting — plus what actually separates a grill that lasts from one that doesn't.

Size It to How You Host

Budget roughly 6 inches of cooking width per regular guest, then match to your real habits:

  • Family of 4, occasional hosting: 30–32″ grill.
  • Regular weekend host (8–12): 36″ — the sweet spot for most.
  • Big crowds (12+) or serious cook: 36–42″, or a grill plus a side/power burner.

Going bigger than you host wastes fuel and counter space. Going smaller means working in batches.

Built-In or Freestanding?

  • Built-in: drops into an island for a seamless, permanent kitchen. The premium look. Requires a cutout and proper clearances — always follow the manual and local code, and use an insulated jacket in combustible enclosures.
  • Freestanding / cart: rolls where you need it, no masonry, easy to start with and upgrade later. Ideal for renters or phased builds.

Signs of a Grill That Lasts

  • 304 stainless steel construction, especially the cooking grates and burners.
  • Even heat — quality burners and flame tamers, not just high BTU numbers.
  • Solid warranty from an authorized dealer (so it's actually honored).
