THE LUXE GUIDE

The Luxe Zone Guide

All eight zones of outdoor living — what each is for, how to size it, and what to put in it.

THE LUXE GUIDE

Eight zones. One space that works.

Every great outdoor space is really a set of working zones — five that make the kitchen, three that make it a place to live. This guide walks each one in detail: what it's for, how to size it, and what to put in it. Design around the zones and nothing gets forgotten.

The 8 Zones at a Glance

1CookingGrills, kamados, flat-tops, pizza ovens — the anchor everything is arranged around.
2PrepCounters, sinks, and storage that turn cooking from a juggling act into a pleasure.
3Cold / BeverageRefrigeration, kegerators, and bar space so no one runs back inside.
4VentilationHoods and airflow — mandatory the moment you cook under a roof.
5FireFire pits and features that extend the season and pull people together.
6StructurePergolas, pavilions, and shade that define the footprint and beat the weather.
7LightingLayered task, ambient, and accent light that keeps the evening going.
8ComfortSeating, heating, and finishes that decide whether people stay ten minutes or all night.

The Cooking Zones (The Kitchen)

These five zones are the working heart of the space — and where your build starts. Plan them together so they flow:

  • Cooking: choose your primary cooker first; everything else sizes around it. Budget ~6″ of cooking width per regular guest.
  • Prep: aim for at least 24″ of landing counter beside the grill, plus a sink if you have water access.
  • Cold / Beverage: an outdoor-rated fridge or beverage center keeps the cook and guests out of the house.
  • Ventilation: required for covered or enclosed cooking — always follow the manual and local code for hood sizing and clearances.
  • Specialty fire cooking: kamados, flat-tops, and pizza ovens add range as a second cooker.

The Environment Zones (Coming Into Focus)

Fire, structure, lighting, and comfort are what turn a cooking station into a true outdoor living room — a second center of gravity for after the meal, shade and shelter that make the space usable in real weather, and the lighting and seating that decide whether people stay all night. We're expanding our lineup across these environment zones now — talk to us about what you're planning and we'll help you source it.
